About Us

Jonah Allison has been producing theatre under the company's mandate for a number of years, taking shows to the London (Ontario) Fringe Festival to rave reviews and has performed at such Toronto independent theatre institutions as Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Dancemakers, Equity Showcase Theatre, The Poor Alex and The Space.  Officially forming in early 2005, Column 13’s theatre has shown a commitment to exploring the existing Canadian canon by performing the first Toronto remount of several Canadian plays including Leanna Brodie’s The Vic, Matthew Edison’s The Domino Heart, McIvor’s You are Here, Judith Thompson’s Habitat and Daniel MacIvor’s The Soldier Dreams, as well as mounting a large cast production of Judith Thompson’s Lion in the Streets in 2002.

Company members also have had a strong interest in the development of new Canadian work.  In July of 2004 several company members participated in a workshop of Fell Swoop, a new all female play co-written by Angela Hanes and Toronto playwright and performance artist Ann McDougall.

We have also explored the work of prolific international playwrights; in July of 2004 several members of the collective participated as actors and on the production team for the Canadian premiere of Sam Shepard’s most recent play, The Late Henry Moss at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre.  In January of 2005, Column 13 performed its official inaugural production, the Toronto premiere of Where’s my Money? by Oscar and Pulitzer prize winning playwright John Patrick Shanley at Equity Showcase Theatre to enthusiastic audiences and media alike.  In March of 2005, Column 13 mounted a successful production of David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross, which grew its audience base substantially.

As our audience continues to grow, so does our collective as we continue to develop and progress towards our goal of becoming a strong ensemble of artists committed to engaging in challenging, meaningful and honest work.
